The Art of News: Comics Journalism
09/06/2021
As comics become more ubiquitous for storytelling and autobiography, comics journalism is on the move to up-end visual methods of truthtelling in the media.
Comics professionals flock to Oregon for the abundance of publishing houses and the predominant Comics Studies program at the University of Oregon. With scholars and creators in mind, The Art of News was born to showcase the extraordinary work of comics journalists documenting current events deemed as ‘undocumentable’.
Curators and editors of the final book, Dr. Kate Kelp-Stebbins & Ben Passmore, recruited me through my extraordinary work as a Comics Studies alum to draft the questions and conduct the interviews with comics journalists and epic creators, Gerardo Alba and Dan Archer. The symposium, exhibit, and book include provocative interviews with aforementioned comics journalists by Lars Allen, documenting the changes and movements made by alternative modes of journalism.
